• Helping with support where required.
• Managing the Mailshot data that is used for marketing.
What do you enjoy doing when you are not working?
I like going for walks when time allows, watching sport on TV, and spending time on the computer. I also like to learn new things where computer technology evolves and watching documentaries.
What do you like the most about working at Focus Micro Systems?
Working as a team to develop new ideas for our software and seeing the results of these. The whole team is so driven to get things done. I find that everyone in the office is easy to communicate with.
What’s your background?
I was born in Oxford back in November 1968. I grew up in Abingdon until I was 7 and then moved to Kidlington.
At school I enjoyed maths and physics over other subjects as I found them far more interesting, although I also liked art and woodwork too.
I got my first computer in 1983 and I was hooked from then on. I wrote programs in the evenings and at weekends and just liked to learn new things I could do on it.
When I left school in 1989, I started working for Focus Micro Systems on a Government Training Scheme. I was taken on full time in 1990 and haven’t looked back since.
I moved from using dBase databases in the beginning with DOS, then moving onto Access databases in Visual Basic, helping to convert the DOS Rent program into Windows. Since then, we have moved onto SQL Server databases and using Visual Studio C# on the Web.
What’s your favourite film?
Blues Brothers 2000
Both equally great films.
How do you start your day?
I get up around 7am on weekdays, get washed and then once ready I have a cup of coffee and toast before leaving for work about 8am.
What’s one thing that surprised you about working at Focus Micro Systems?
The way the current team is so driven to get things done and help each other out. It is a pleasure to work with everyone in the office.
